Rock Hunting on Cape Cod

Rock Hunting on Cape Cod

This summer, I spent a simple but unforgettable afternoon with my three daughters on the Cape Cod shoreline. No big plans, no elaborate agenda—just the sun on our backs, the salt in the air, and a stretch of sand scattered with treasures.

The girls darted from tide pool to tide pool, their laughter carrying over the waves as they collected smooth stones, bits of sea glass, and shells that glistened like tiny jewels. Each discovery came with excitement—"Look at this one!"—as if the ocean had left a gift just for them.

It struck me how something so simple could feel so full. The warmth of the sun, the sparkle of the water, the joy of watching them delight in the hunt—it all felt both timeless and fleeting.

Cape Cod has a way of stirring up nostalgia, and rock hunting with my daughters reminded me that the best memories aren’t planned. They’re found, like treasures in the sand, waiting to be picked up and held close. As summer ends, I look forward to my rocks keeping me company while my daughters go off to college.
